Description

The purpose of this workshop is to provide education on substance use in the African American community. By participating in this workshop, participants will become educated on substance use and the stigma associated with seeking treatment in the African American community. Lastly, this workshop will discuss the lack of best practices and how to engage African Americans in substance use disorder treatment.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will examine substance use disorder and African Americans.

  • Participants will identify societal and cultural constructs that play a role as protective factors, and interventions in substance use disorder treatment.

  • Participants will explore substance use disorder treatment among African Americans.

Who Should Attend

Addiction professionals, employee assistance professionals, social workers, mental health counselors, professional counselors, psychologists, and other helping professionals that are interested in learning about addiction-related matters. Live closed captioning is available and the captioning capabilities are in compliance with the practices defined in Worldwide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Immediately following previously-scheduled one (1) hour webinar presentation by Sherrá Watkins, PhD, LCMHC-S, LCAS, CRC, CCS, BC-TMH, this webinar will shift to a one (1) hour Virtual Town Hall Event with an open discussion forum. Guest panelists will include Anthony Andrews, PhD, CRC, LCMHC, LCAS, TF-CBT, NAADAC Executive Director Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP, and NAADAC Director of Training and Professional Development Samson Teklemariam, MA, LPC, CPTM.

The town hall will immediately follow the webinar. No additional registration is required. The webinar and town hall are worth a total of 2 CEs*.

To earn a CE Certificate for viewing this webinar, you must view the webinar in its entirety, complete the online evaluation, and pass the CE quiz.

  1. Upon completing the webinar, click on the “Online CE Quiz” link in the grey box at the top to complete the online evaluation survey and CE quiz, and get your CE certificate. This link will be made available after the webinar takes place. NAADAC members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a processing fee to access the quiz.
  2. A score of 80% or higher is required to pass the CE quiz and access your CE certificate. You have 10 opportunities to pass the quiz. If you are unable to pass the quiz in the allocated number of tries, then you must retake the course.
  3. Upon passing the CE quiz, your CE certificate will be immediately available to download in your NAADAC profile. Detailed step-by-step instructions for accessing your CE quiz and CE Certificate are available.

The CE certificate for this webinar will be available after the webinar takes place. Attendees can chose to earn 2 NAADAC CEs (not approved by NASW) OR 1 NASW-approved NAADAC CE. NAADAC Members will be prompted to register for the CE quiz for free, while non-members will be prompted to pay a $25 processing fee to access the 2 hour quiz OR a $15 processing fee to access the 1 hour NASW quiz. Upon passing the CE quiz, a CE Certificate will be immediately available to download in your profile.
