Training Overview Description
This module is designed to help providers become comfortable in serving people with disabilities.
Nationally, 1 in 5 adults experience mental health conditions, about 20% (NAMI). Most findings indicate between 30-50% of people with disabilities experience mental health conditions. Despite the higher rates, people with disabilities are less likely to receive the mental health services they need. It can be difficult to find a mental health provider ready to work with them.
This module reviews the basics of disability including
- definitions,
- associated history and rights,
- disability etiquette, and
- appropriate language.
